We believe that you are familiar with the fact that this is not about the real Ćiri who roared on the mentioned section, but about cyclists (Ćira’s friends) who are organizing another bicycle caravan, an event that serves to promote Ćira’s bike path and tourist capacities of southern Herzegovina.

The Association for the Promotion of Cycling “HerzegovinaBike” and the Cycling Club Mostar are once again organizing a promotional cycling race on the section from Mostar to Čapljina. Namely, although at the beginning of last year this promotional bicycle race was not held due to the cancellation of all events due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, the organizers hope that this year on Sunday they could have a nice gathering and event promoting Herzegovina, active tourism and tourist capacities of Herzegovina.

“Spring is here with us, so the time has come for the cycling race on the Ćira railway to start from Mostar and end in Čapljina. We hope that this year we will be able to hold this event, of course with physical distance and adherence to all epidemiological measures and recommendations.” say the organizers.

It should be noted that in recent years this cycling race has recorded a record number of 200 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia and Croatia who cycled on a 40 km long section visited Blagaj, Buna, Počitelj and Čapljina, as well as all their historical and cultural sights.

“The plan is the same as in previous years, we want to present to our guests in the best possible light all the cultural and historical sights that Ćira’s route has to offer on the mentioned section. We are sure that we will not have guests from the region, but we believe that our friends from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina will visit Herzegovina on this don and enjoy the beautiful weather, fresh air and pleasant company. Of course, this year we have our cycling guides who will be the leaders of this bike ride and present to our guests all the destinations we visit on our trip, and thus further educate ourselves to meet all the conditions to get a cycling guide license from the Cycling Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. ” commented Toni Zorić, president of this association.

“This year we will drive the inevitable Old Bridge in Mostar, and visit Blagaj and the source of the river Buna, we will pass by the Monastery in Žitomislići, Hutova blata, we will visit the old town of Počitelj and once again end our journey in Čapljina. which is definitely worth visiting, and the trail we ride is one of the most beautiful trails in Herzegovina, so this is an event that is definitely worth participating in, “said the organizers.

Gathering and departure is on Sunday, April 18, 2021. starting at 10:00 am in front of the home of Herceg Stjepan Kočač on the square of Croatian greats (Rondo).

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, the second cycle of theoretical and practical (field) training for bicycle guides within the project “Cycling routes for the improvement of natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural” was completed at the Park Hotel in Široki Brijeg, after which, on Sunday, November 15, 2020, a bicycle race was successfully held with the purpose of promoting the cycling tourist offer of Herzegovina and its tourist facilities – “MEET HERZEGOVINA: Posuški đir“.

During the ride, the participants of the cycling race passed through the rural parts of western Herzegovina, providing perfect conditions for mountain biking. They started from the stećak tombstones and the bridge on Ričina, driving through the towns of Vir, Zavelim, Podbila and the beautiful waterfall Žukovica, Lake Tribistovo, to end their journey again in Posušje. From visiting remote villages, rural roads and the way of life of the local population on this 53-kilometer-long route, they discovered the most hidden corners of nature in western Herzegovina.

Only participants in the second round of training for bicycle guides took part in this cycling race and unfortunately it was not open to the public as planned given the deteriorating epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19.

As part of the cycling race, diplomas for cycling guides coming from all over the region were also distributed. Congratulations to all participants and we wish them a lot of success in their work.

This is the second in a series of recreational cycling rides that will be organized within the project, and the introduction of quality standards “Bike Friendly Concept” is planned, which will add value to the tourist offer of the entire region. The organizers of the National Championship are the association “Herzegovina bicikl” and the Cycling Club Mostar, together with the Cycling Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The best road cyclists of Bosnia and Herzegovina will perform at the Championship, and they will fight for valuable UCI points that count for the qualifying norm for the Olympic Games. As the president of the association “HerzegovinaBike” Toni Zorić, who is the organizer of this National Championship, pointed out, BeHa cyclists in all categories will perform at the championship, and it is important to point out that Mostar and Herzegovina will have several representatives.

“We are extremely honored and pleased to host a National Championship, in fact one of the most important races where cyclists fight for the title of National Champion and valuable UCI points. Thank you to the Cycling Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which recognized our work and efforts, and offered to Mostar “This year’s National Championship race is called” Herzegovina Classic “, and our wish is to present Herzegovina as a country of sports and present it as a desirable tourist destination,” said Toni Zorić.

Cycling in Herzegovina is in great expansion, and the work of these two associations has contributed a lot, working hard to improve the conditions for cycling in terms of cycling infrastructure, tourist offer, and presenting cycling as a sport and healthy lifestyle. It is important to point out that these associations, together with the Office of the Government of the West Herzegovina County for European Integration, as the project leader at the beginning of October, organize training for cycling guides, as well as the cycling tour MEET HERZEGOVINA – “Franciskana”. For 6 years in a row we are the organizers of the National Mountain Biking Championship “Herzegovina Classic. We believe that this year, despite the problems with the pandemic and the difficult conditions in which we find ourselves, we will successfully present this project and justify the trust given to us for organizing this important event for cycling in BiH,” Zoric added.

The start and finish of the race will be in front of the Mepas Mall starting at 12:00, from where cyclists will ride a closed ride through the city, after which they will face a demanding climb towards Goranci and a fierce fight for the title of National Champion.

The race is organized with the help of the General Sponsor: Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, Partners: Sports Federation of the City of Mostar, Ministry of Interior HNŽ / K, and sponsors Mepas Mall, LEDA water and restaurant Konoba Goranci.

On several occasions, we have written about patents and other types of cycling ultramarathons – a fast-growing branch of cycling, which has certainly gained popularity in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

To remind you, brevets are long-distance rides based on endurance and are not of a competitive nature. We talked about this topic with Nikica Atlagić, multiple champion of BiH in cycling, as well as a prominent ultramarathoner, who recently drove the B-HARD route of 1200 km within 90 hours.

BM: Nikica, tell us how you decided on a move like this and what did the 1200 km ride look like?

NA: In human nature, there is a need to explore and move my own boundaries, so in addition to development in a competitive sense, I have always had a desire for other types of challenges. Thus, at the beginning of my road cycling career, I had a great desire to take the section Banja Luka – Makarska, in the length of 254 km, which I achieved in 2008. in the time of 8h and 52 min. Since then, I have continued to devise and practice various one-day and multi-day challenges and adventures, and since 2012. I also take part in the mentioned brevet rides. This brings us to the end of last month and a 1200 km drive, which is characterized not only by length, but also by a distinctly “serrated” profile, as well as a time limit of 90 h. Also, I drove alone and unaccompanied. The goal of the ride itself was not to take the route in a minimum period of time, but to promote it, so I divided the ride into four stages, or a kind of logical whole. Thus, the first stage was from Banja Luka, through Kozara, Manjača and Kupres, all the way to Mostar, in the length of 358 km. The most difficult stage was on the program on the third day, when I had to overcome four mountain passes. In general, this kind of driving is a huge psychophysical challenge, but it also represents equally great pleasure, adventure and a sense of achievement.

BM: You did not decide to run this route by accident, but it is exactly the route of the bicycle ultramarathon called B-HARD, whose idea creator and organizer you are. Tell us more about it.

NA: Exactly. The mentioned event, under the full name B-HARD Ultra Race & Brevet (http://www.bhardultrarace.com), whose main media sponsor from the beginning is Bike Magazine, is an event that has already been included in the calendar of tourist events in its second edition. Banja Luka for this year. The start and finish of the 1200 km circular route are in Banja Luka, and the route visits as many as 11 fascinating locations in BiH, which are also the so-called control points. The guiding idea for the creation of this event was the desire to promote the unique natural and historical beauties of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a very specific way. We were on our way to make a world-class and voice event this year, but the well-known situation thwarted those plans, both for us – the organizer, and for most of the registered participants. However, we are determined to hold the event in the minimum capacity, and we have scheduled it for a new date, in the period from 28.8. to September 2, 2020, with a tried and tested recipe for public online tracking of participants via GPS devices, as well as field reports, via social networks.

BM: The 1200 km ride is not approached “just like that”, but there are a number of shorter certificates, right?

NA: That’s right, brevets exist in lengths of 200, 300, 400, up to several thousand km. This year, the brevets, under the auspices of Randonneurs Srpska / BIH, have experienced a major expansion. Thus, in June, we held a 200k patent in Banja Luka, with a record 40 participants, with most drivers having their first participation in such an event, while it is very commendable that the certificates were very successfully held for the first time in Sarajevo, Bihać and more. in some places. Within B-HARD, ie. the first day, we will also have a 200k brevet, 223 km long and with a very early start, as well as a promotional ride for women, 124 km long. It is an ideal opportunity for everyone to try their hand at this discipline, push their limits and welcome the sunrise on a bicycle.

BM: We wish all participants good luck and good weather conditions!

NA: Thank you for the support and promotion you are doing for cycling in BiH and the region.

Behind us is another beautiful weekend in the Bidinje Nature Park, which attracted many lovers of outdoor sports, but also entire families who enjoyed the event Blidinje BIKE Festival.

For the second year in a row, the Blidinje BIKE Festival delights its participants, so it is not surprising that this year the event receives all the praise on social networks and media that followed the event. This three-day event started on Friday with the education of the youngest members of the club and the presentation of the event, Saturday is reserved for a recreational ride “Ajduk Trail” in some of the most beautiful parts of Blidinje, while Sunday was marked by the professional race “XCM Herzegovina 2020”.

“We knocked once again! Another perfectly organized event is behind us and to be honest I’m still in disbelief that we succeeded. This whole situation was very frustrating and we were on the edge of our nerves, but today we are just happy that we didn’t give up and that we were able to once again portray our country as a desirable cycling destination. We receive praise from all participants who send us messages or simply post photos on their social networks and do not spare words of praise for the organization.Really, we are happy about it and once again We thank everyone who increased this event with their presence, as well as, of course, all our sponsors and friends who made this possible, “said Toni Zorić.

“Of course, aware of the situation we are in, we followed all orders and recommendations of the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters, as well as measures of the Cycling Federation of BiH to protect and preserve the health of all participants, including organizers and judges at the event. which accompanied the implementation of these measures and we received positive assessments on this issue as well, “Zoric added.

Saturday did not surprise this year either, just like last year, clouds came over the mountain and the rain soon started to fall until the afternoon when the presentation started and when some of the most beautiful stories of the legendary Stipe Božić started. However, regardless of the clouds, the day really started in the top mood of all 60 participants of the cycling race “Ajduk Trail”, who enjoyed the stunning landscapes offered by Blidinje, which he knows best and is represented in words by the cycling guide Ante Bagarić – MTB Blidinje.

“Well, we have to admit that the rain did not surprise us and did not spoil the mood, both for us and the participants. We had 60 guests who came to spend a pleasant weekend in Blidinje, they accepted the weather as it is, summer rain is here, they put on jackets, put on The group drove the whole circle around Vran mountain, and in the afternoon they returned to the Staza restaurant, where a workshop “How to get to the top” was held by the legendary alpinist and travel writer Stipe Božić, “added Zorić.

It is important to note that this workshop was organized within the project “Cycling routes for the improvement of natural and cultural heritage of Herzegovina and Montenegro – Cycling Rural”.

Sunday was marked by the professional race “XCM Herzegovina 2020”, which attracted athletes and professional cyclists from 5 countries to try their hand at the Blidinje trails. There were two trails on offer: 52 km with 1,000 meters above sea level and 85 km with 1,700 meters above sea level, which is reserved for Elite drivers and all those who feel that way.

The fastest on the small track was Dejan Gavrić (BK Summit) who overcame the 52 km long test in 2:18:16. In the Elite Women category, the fastest was Lejla Tanović (BBK Puls Sarajevo) who finished her race in 2:18:49, while in the extremely demanding race intended for professional Elite drivers, Vedad Karić proved to be the fastest (BK Rotacija Spin ) who crossed 85 km and 1700 m above sea level in 3:37:06 with an average speed of 22.1 km / h, and thus took the victory in the overall standings. He is followed by Marko Fržop (BK Top Sport) in second place with a time of 3:43:10 and Goran Cerović (Pljevlja XC Team) in third place with a time of 3:50:46.

“We did the impossible and this time I want to thank the team behind this project and all this would be impossible without all those wonderful 40 people who worked tirelessly and gave themselves to send another beautiful postcard of their country. Even many of the participants commented on the event that I cannot believe that someone in such difficult times can make such a good and successful organization of the event and we are happy about that. We are really happy, “said Zoric.

Blidinje Nature Park is truly a fascinating location and has so much to offer, and the right place to relax. Lately, it has become a real mecca for all fans of outdoor sports, as evidenced by the superbly organized Blidinje BIKE Festival event. We hope that this event will grow into an event that will be held in Blidinje for years to come.
