Sarajevo; 10/14/2025. — The HerzegovinaBike association today formally confirmed the start of a project to procure electric bicycles after signing a contract with the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism. The contract was concluded under the Capital Transfers program — Transfer for Tourism Development in the Federation of BiH for 2025, through which the Ministry co-finances projects aimed at sustainable development and the specific needs of tourist destinations.
Minister Nasiha Pozder emphasized that the program’s goal is to promote sustainable and authentic tourism, improve infrastructure, preserve natural and cultural heritage, and support projects that reduce seasonality. The total amount of funds for capital projects in 2025 is BAM 1,500,000; today the minister also signed contracts for projects at various destinations: from infrastructure and experiences in Čitluk, to a cable car in Kupres and winter infrastructure near Konjic, to the development of cycle tourism and projects for revitalizing cultural-historical sites and developing rafting.
By procuring electric bicycles, HerzegovinaBike aims to contribute to the development of cycle tourism in Herzegovina and address a key problem: the lack of available e-bikes, which has forced many tourists to transport their own bicycles by plane, making visits and promotion of the country as a cycle-tourism destination more difficult. The association says this new capacity will facilitate trip organization, extend tourist routes, and increase the region’s accessibility and attractiveness.

Particularly is emphasized the role of the Ciro Trail route — an internationally recognized product that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists from around the world each year. Introducing e-bikes will significantly ease visitors’ access to the trail and nearby attractions, which can help extend the season and produce greater economic benefits for local communities.
“I thank Minister Nasiha Pozder for today’s reception and for the support through the Capital Transfers project, which will enable us to significantly expand our tourist offer. We consistently promote our country as an attractive cycle-tourism destination, but the previous lack of a quality supply of electric bicycles limited rental opportunities and forced guests to transport their own bikes by plane. I believe this affected many travelers’ decisions not to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina. With this project we gain a functional tool to meet that need, which will directly contribute to increasing visitor numbers and strengthening our country’s tourism competitiveness“, said Toni Zorić, president of the HerzegovinaBike association.

With this project, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism is showing how strategic investments in sustainable forms of tourism can help strengthen Bosnia and Herzegovina’s image as a modern, active, and environmentally conscious destination.
HerzegovinaBike will soon present details about the new e-bike offering and how visitors will be able to use this service on the Ćiro Trail as well as on other cycling routes in Herzegovina.
The association expects the project to stimulate additional tourist services, increase the number of overnight stays, and contribute to the economic growth of local communities through the preservation of natural and cultural values and the reduction of seasonality.
