As the countdown to the country’s largest sporting spectacle continues, Mostar is preparing to become the heart of Bosnian cycling. Within the framework of the Olympic Solidarity project, and with the support the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), a ten-day training camp for the BiH National Team will take place in the city on the Neretva river.
Preparation for the Greatest Challenge: Scouting the Tour Routes
The primary goal of the camp is the maximum physical and tactical preparation of the national team for the upcoming international race “Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina”. Over ten days, the best Bosnian riders will have the opportunity to scout the race stages in detail, test demanding climbs, and develop the team strategy essential for competing against elite world teams.
Generational Synergy: From Seniors to Promising Cadets
The selectors of the Cycling Federation of BiH have invited the Senior and Junior squads to the camp, but a special emphasis has been placed on the future. The most promising Cadets will join the senior team, providing them with a unique opportunity to step into the world of professional cycling. Through direct collaboration with their older colleagues, young riders will learn about the discipline, technique, and demands of professional sports.
Knowledge Transfer from the UCI Center in Switzerland
The educational portion of the camp will be led by UCI-licensed coaches and commissaires. These experts earned their titles through education at the prestigious UCI World Cycling Centre in Switzerland, building on a foundation of knowledge solidified during previous camps held at Blidinje as part of the Blidinje BIKE Festival.
Now, as seasoned professionals, they will pass on the latest training methodologies and professional cycling regulations to new generations. Lectures and practical work will cover all segments – from elite preparation and nutrition to technical mastery of UCI race rules.
Institutional Support for Top-Tier Sport
This camp represents the pinnacle of cooperation between domestic and international sports institutions. Thanks to the Olympic Solidarity project, Bosnian cyclists have been provided with working conditions befitting modern European national teams.
"This is more than just training; it is the creation of a system. Our riders are following in the footsteps of professionals, utilizing the knowledge we have accumulated over the years through UCI education. Mostar is an ideal base, and the support from the Olympic Committee of BiH and the UCI gives us the momentum to show the best of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Tour", said Adnan Mekić, selector of the Cycling Federation of BiH.
The Mostar training camp thus becomes a crucial stepping stone toward success at the "Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina," setting new standards in the development of cycling in our country.
