Successful Realization of Hercegovina Classic – National Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Cycling Event Car-Free Day
Last weekend, Mostar was the center of cycling events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, once again confirming that the city on the Neretva River and the Herzegovina region have all the prerequisites to become an epicenter for the development of cycling and an active lifestyle. Organized by the HerzegovinaBike and partners, two major events were successfully held – Hercegovina Classic 2025 (National Road Cycling Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the cycling event marking the European Car-Free Day.
Hercegovina Classic 2025 – A Two-Wheeled Spectacle and the Battle for National Titles
On Saturday, September 20, Mostar hosted one of the most exciting sporting events of the year – the Herzegovina Classic 2025, which counted toward the National Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The best cyclists from across the country took on the demanding course starting from the heart of Mostar and finishing with a climb to Rujište, a popular Herzegovinian mountain resort located at more than 1,000 meters above sea level.
The course offered it all – long flat sections, sharp turns, and steep climbs – with the final ascent to Rujište deciding the new national road cycling champions. Spectators witnessed top-level sport, tactical duels, and thrilling finishes that defined the competition.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the race carried significant promotional value, showcasing Herzegovina as a region with outstanding conditions for road cycling – from challenging mountain climbs to breathtaking natural landscapes.
The event was organized under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, with financial support from the City of Mostar, HT Eronet, Continental Tires, Tourist Board of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Tourist Board of the City of Mostar, Škoda Apolo, Mepas Mall, and Capriolo SC Mostar.
Car-Free Day – Cycling in the Spirit of Health and Ecology
Just two days later, on Monday, September 22, Mostar hosted the traditional Car-free day-cycling event, which brought together several hundred citizens of all ages. The ride started at Španjolski trg (Spanish Square), from where participants cycled through the streets of Mostar, promoting the bicycle as a healthy, eco-friendly, and practical mode of urban transport.
The event was organized by HerzegovinaBike and Cycling Club Mostar, in cooperation with the Sports Association of the City of Mostar. The cycling event took place in a cheerful and friendly atmosphere, reminding all participants of the importance of protecting the environment, reducing traffic congestion, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Two major events held within just a few days demonstrated how seriously Mostar has positioned itself on the map of cycling destinations in the region. From elite road races that crown national champions to recreational cycling gatherings that unite the community – Herzegovina proves that cycling in this area has a strong and promising future.
