A working meeting between the organising team of the international cycling race Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Mr. Nihad Uk, was held in Sarajevo. The discussion focused on the organisation of the first edition of this prestigious event and the possibilities of support from the Government of Sarajevo Canton.
The meeting was attended by Toni ZorićToni Zorić, Race Director and President of the Cycling Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Academician Prof. Dr. Izet RađoIzet Rađo, President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Igor Bašić, member of the Tour of BiH Organising Committee. The organisers presented the race concept, the start location in Sarajevo, and the key goals related to sport, tourism, and the international promotion of the country.
Strong support from the Government of Sarajevo Canton
Prime Minister Nihad Uk expressed great satisfaction with the project, emphasising that the Government of Sarajevo Canton recognises the importance of such an international event for the promotion of the capital city and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole.
It was discussed that Sarajevo, as the capital, should be represented in the most exemplary manner — through the highest level of organisation and hospitality.
A Tour that connects Bosnia and Herzegovina
The organisers presented plans for the race, which is set to start from Sarajevo in April 2026, linking three stages from the capital to Neum, with a total distance of 450 kilometres. Special attention was given to the fact that the race has already sparked huge interest — more than 63 teams from over 38 countries have expressed their intention to participate.
The President of the Olympic Committee of BiH, Prof. Dr. Izet Rađo, stressed that this project brings long-term value — not only in sports terms, but also economically, touristically, and in terms of international promotion. The Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an event that will place our country firmly on the map of major global cycling competitions, with Sarajevo serving as the starting location of the race.
The meeting concluded in a positive atmosphere, with a shared vision that the Tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina will become one of the most recognisable sporting events in the region.
The organising team expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Uk for recognising the significance of the project and for the willingness of the Cantonal Government to be an active partner in its implementation.
