Arslanagi\u0107a bridge \u2013 a pearl of Ottoman architecture in Trebinje<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Perovi\u0107 (Arslanagi\u0107) Bridge<\/a> It is one of the most beautiful and significant monuments from the Ottoman period in Trebinje and occupies a special place in 16th-century Balkan architecture. Its construction is linked to the famous Mehmed Pasha Sokolovi\u0107, who built it in 1574 as an endowment in honor of his son who died in battle with the Venetians.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Historical significance and name<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The bridge was originally located at a crossing point for merchants, armies and travelers, serving as an important communication link. After the Turks were pushed out of Herceg Novi in \u200b\u200b1687, many Ottoman families moved to Trebinje. Among them was Arslan-aga, who was granted estates east of the city \u2013 in Zupci, Necvje\u0107 and Jasen. As a reward for his services, he was granted the right to collect tolls on this bridge, after which the bridge was given a new name \u2013 Arslanagi\u0107a Bridge.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The fate of the bridge and its relocation<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The construction of a hydroelectric power system on the Trebi\u0161njica River in the mid-20th century significantly influenced the fate of the bridge. In 1965, with the formation of a reservoir, the bridge was submerged. Thanks to the efforts of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, the bridge was carefully dismantled and moved downstream. The relocation process was completed in 1966, when the bridge was re-erected at its current location, between the settlements of Gradina (right bank of the Trebi\u0161njica) and Police (left bank).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Bridge architecture<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Arslanagi\u0107 Bridge stands out for its imposing beauty and distinctive architectural style. It is built of hewn stone, with two large arches and several smaller openings that allow water to flow during high water levels.
