In the embrace of the spacious and picturesque areas of the mountains of Čvrsnica, Čabulje and Vrana, one of the most important nature reserves of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located - We are taking you to the Blidinje Nature Park.

GENERAL ABOUT BLIDINJE NATURE PARK

Blidinje Nature Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this beautiful gem of Herzegovina should be on your travel list. About 360 km2 of this incredibly rich and biologically diverse park lies in the heart of the Dinaric Mountains in the northern part of Herzegovina. Almost half of the Park is covered with forest, and due to its rich biodiversity, the entire area was recognized and protected as a Nature Park in 1995.

The main motives for establishing the Blidinje Nature Park are found in the multitude of endemic plants, in the variety of animal life that inhabits beautiful forests, steep cliffs, deep ravines, living undisturbed and developing according to natural laws, far from the influence of man.

Why visit Blidinje?

The forest landscape, long pastures, clear lake, clean air and numerous archaeological sites are just some of the reasons, which are certainly more than enough to visit this unique nature reserve. But Blidinje offers much more - something for everyone.

The most famous sights of the park by the lake are the rich archaeological sites, and the necropolis with 150 stećaks in Dugi polje, which in January 2004 received the status of National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the cultural sites, the Franciscan monastery, which is located at the foot of Pločno peak in the town of Masna Luka, is also worth mentioning, which also houses an art gallery. Worth mentioning is the massif of Čvrsnica, and as a special geomorphological reserve Diva Grabovica, which includes the canyon of the river Grabovica within the framework of the beautiful whole.

This tour is perfect for all those who want to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the Blidinje Nature Park and the rich history of this region, but want to combine it with the adventurous element of cycling.

Tour of the Blidinje Nature Park on the "Hajduk bicycle route"

This cycling route takes you through beautiful landscapes, starting from Masna Luka, through Badnje and Ski Staza to the stećak necropolis on Risovac. Then it goes to the Dugo Polje Necropolis, which is under UNESCO protection. The entire time it passes through the center of the Blidinje Nature Park, and along this path you will have excellent views of Vran and Čvrsnica, and a large part of Blidinj Lake and Risovac.

The tour starts from the administrative building of the Blidinje Nature Park. Immediately upon departure, you go down to Masna Luka and you can see the Church of St. Elijah. After visiting the church and the Franciscan House of Prayer, this cycling tour goes through the beautiful landscapes of Badnja and Ivan Dolca, from where there is an excellent view of the high slopes of Čvrsnica that tower over Masna Luka and the Ski Trail. Passing through Ivan Dolac and through the area of a large number of beautiful cottages, you get to the asphalt road (regional road R419). After a few hundred meters, the asphalt road turns right onto the Ski Trail, where you can take a short break (and you can also have a drink in the restaurant). After viewing the ski slopes, this tour takes you back to the asphalt road that continues to the Necropolis of Stećak Risovac. There is also an old church in Risovac near the stećak, and a little before, along the road, you can see a new large church. From these stećaks to those named Dugo Polje, you pass through the Risovac field, dotted with cultivated meadows and small green hills, which give the whole tour a special atmosphere where you feel that you are on a lower plateau, and not in the area of high mountains. Touring the Stećak Necropolis of Dugo Polje, which is also under UNESCO protection and has as many as 150 stećaks, the tour continues on the asphalt road through the central part of Blidinje.

Along the long paved road towards Blidinje Lake, the views in any direction will leave you with the impression that the Blidinje Nature Park is a truly special place of unprecedented beauty. Arriving at the lake itself is followed by enjoyment and rest with the pleasant sounds of its turbulent water swaying by the gentle mountain breeze. After the lake, it is necessary to cross the edge of Dugi Polje towards the forests of Boričevac, and then cross the macadam and through the tall pine trees again to the asphalt road to Masna Luka. After a few minutes of asphalt, you reach the starting point where this tour ends.

Administrative building of the Blidinje Nature Park -> Masna Luka -> Badnje -> Ivan Dolac -> Ski Trail -> Risovac Necropolis -> Dugo Polje Necropolis -> Hajdučke Vrleti -> Chapel of St. Ante -> Mountain lodge Blidinje -> Boričevac -> Administration building of the Blidinje Nature Park

RECOMMENDATION

Although the trail mostly takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalt section, we also come across a macadam section of the trail, while we always think that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
Helmet mandatory!
