In the embrace of the spacious and picturesque areas of the mountains of Čvrsnica, Čabulje and Vrana, one of the most important nature reserves of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located - We are taking you to the Blidinje Nature Park.

GENERAL ABOUT BLIDINJE NATURE PARK

Blidinje Nature Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this beautiful gem of Herzegovina should be on your travel list. About 360 km2 of this incredibly rich and biologically diverse park lies in the heart of the Dinaric Mountains in the northern part of Herzegovina. Almost half of the Park is covered with forest, and due to its rich biodiversity, the entire area was recognized and protected as a Nature Park in 1995.

The main motives for establishing the Blidinje Nature Park are found in the multitude of endemic plants, in the variety of animal life that inhabits beautiful forests, steep cliffs, deep ravines, living undisturbed and developing according to natural laws, far from the influence of man.

Why visit Blidinje?

The forest landscape, long pastures, clear lake, clean air and numerous archaeological sites are just some of the reasons, which are certainly more than enough to visit this unique nature reserve. But Blidinje offers much more - something for everyone.

The most famous sights of the park by the lake are the rich archaeological sites, and the necropolis with 150 stećaks in Dugi polje, which in January 2004 received the status of National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the cultural sites, the Franciscan monastery, which is located at the foot of Pločno peak in the town of Masna Luka, is also worth mentioning, which also houses an art gallery. Worth mentioning is the massif of Čvrsnica, and as a special geomorphological reserve Diva Grabovica, which includes the canyon of the river Grabovica within the framework of the beautiful whole.

This tour is perfect for all those who want to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the Blidinje Nature Park and the rich history of this region, but want to combine it with the adventurous element of cycling.

Tour of the Blidinje Nature Park on the "Fairy Bike Route"

This cycling route takes you through the most beautiful and popular areas of the Blidinje Nature Park. This is a real small tourist tour of the park in a leisurely way, on two wheels and according to the green-destination model, without the slightest pollution of the environment.

The tour starts from the very heart of the whole park, that is Masna Luka. With unrepeatable views of the magnificent Čvrsnica and driving along the edges of the forest made up of the endemic munika pine, you drive on an asphalted road that does not require a lot of physical effort. In addition to that starting point and the attraction that Masna Luka is, you can also go to the Necropolis of Stećak Dugo Polje. Exiting the main road that connects Posušje and Tomislavgrad with Jablanica, you need to go right towards the necropolis. Suffice it to say that UNESCO recognized the beauty of the centuries-old stećak and placed it under its heritage. Along the dashes of history next to the necropolis, take the same road back to Blidinjska jezera. The plain that you drive between these two points is 6.5 km long, and on it you drive past Hajdučki Vrleti, Mijat Tomić's Lower Cave, Chapel of St. Ante and finally you reach Blidinjsko Jezera. The long asphalt road on which you practically do not need to turn even a meter allows easy driving while sightseeing. Čvrsnica and Vran are following you all the time. The views of their high peaks will knock you off your feet, and all that beauty will call you to try your hand at hiking and come up, to those heights, and be a part of all that beauty.

Arriving at the lake, you come across the Blidinje Mountaineering Lodge, whose location is truly excellent. Next to the lake is the best place to rest your body, soul, and eyes. Sitting and listening to the rushing mountain water would be quite enough in today's world, but you will also feel the light mountain air caressing your face. Beyond the lake, your view will be occupied by Jelinak. It is the green peak of Čvrsnica that rises above the lake to make the whole landscape even more beautiful.

In addition to pure enjoyment by the lake, the same asphalt road leads you back to Masna Luka and there is another opportunity to enjoy the diverse beauties of the Blidinje Nature Park. Finally, it is always recommended to go down to the Church of St. Ilija in Masna Luka and see why that place is the center of everything, and with a tour of it, end the tour at the Administration Building of the Blidinje Nature Park.

Administrative building of the Blidinje Nature Park -> Exit to the main road -> Dugo Polje Necropolis -> Hajdučke Vrleti -> Chapel of St. Ante -> Blidinjsko Jezero -> Return back to Masna Luka on the asphalt road -> Church of St. Ilije - Administrative building of the Blidinje Nature Park

Route length: approx. 20 km

RECOMMENDATION

Although the trail mostly takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalt section, we also come across a macadam section of the trail, while we always think that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
Helmet mandatory!
