In the embrace of the spacious and picturesque areas of the mountains of Čvrsnica, Čabulje and Vrana, one of the most important nature reserves of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located - We are taking you to the Blidinje Nature Park.

GENERAL ABOUT BLIDINJE NATURE PARK

Blidinje Nature Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this beautiful gem of Herzegovina should be on your travel list. About 360 km2 of this incredibly rich and biologically diverse park lies in the heart of the Dinaric Mountains in the northern part of Herzegovina. Almost half of the Park is covered with forest, and due to its rich biodiversity, the entire area was recognized and protected as a Nature Park in 1995.

The main motives for establishing the Blidinje Nature Park are found in the multitude of endemic plants, in the variety of animal life that inhabits beautiful forests, steep cliffs, deep ravines, living undisturbed and developing according to natural laws, far from the influence of man.

Why visit Blidinje?

The forest landscape, long pastures, clear lake, clean air and numerous archaeological sites are just some of the reasons, which are certainly more than enough to visit this unique nature reserve. But Blidinje offers much more - something for everyone.

The most famous sights of the park by the lake are the rich archaeological sites, and the necropolis with 150 stećaks in Dugi polje, which in January 2004 received the status of National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the cultural sites, the Franciscan monastery, which is located at the foot of Pločno peak in the town of Masna Luka, is also worth mentioning, which also houses an art gallery. Worth mentioning is the massif of Čvrsnica, and as a special geomorphological reserve Diva Grabovica, which includes the canyon of the river Grabovica within the framework of the beautiful whole.

This tour is perfect for all those who want to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the Blidinje Nature Park and the rich history of this region, but want to combine it with the adventurous element of cycling.

Tour Details

Tour of the Blidinje Nature Park on the "Wolf Bike Path"

This cycling route takes you around the entire central area of the Blidinje Nature Park. It passes two stećak necropolises, four Blidin churches and the grave of Diva Grabovčeva. Along the way, the Risovac Ski Trail is visited and the entire Blidinjsko Jezero is surrounded.

The tour starts from the administrative building of the Blidinje Nature Park. Immediately upon departure, you go down to Masna Luka and you can see the Church of St. Elijah. After visiting the church and the Franciscan House of Prayer, this cycling tour goes through the beautiful landscapes of Badnja and Ivan Dolca, from where there is an excellent view of the high slopes of Čvrsnica that tower over Masna Luka and the Ski Trail. Passing through Ivan Dolac and through the area of a large number of beautiful cottages, you get to the asphalt road (regional road R419). After a few hundred meters, the asphalt road turns right onto the Ski Trail, where you can take a short break (it is also possible to have a drink in the restaurant). After viewing the ski slopes, this tour takes you back to the asphalt road that continues to the Necropolis of Stećak Risovac. There is also an old church in Risovac near the stećak, and a little before, along the road, you can see a new large church.

After the old church on Risovac, the tour continues through the Sovićka Vrata, from where you can enjoy an excellent view of the entire area of Blidinje that you passed through previously. After that place, you cross over to the macadam road, through which you can clearly see the tall Čvrsnica all the time. The macadam leads to the grave of Diva Grabovčeva, and after visiting a place that is extremely important for the history of the park and has great importance in the cultural heritage of the entire area, you descend on the macadam to another site that is also of great importance. Going down a gentle slope, you reach the necropolis of stećak Dugo Polje. The necropolis is under UNESCO protection, and it contains as many as 150 stećaks.

After viewing the stećak, the tour continues along the long asphalt route towards Blidinjski Jezera. Along the way, you pass the Restaurant Hajdučka Vrleti and the Chapel of St. Ante in order to reach the lake itself at the end of the route. The tour then continues in a circle around the lake. It passes by the Church of Our Lady of Snow on Barzonja and goes under Čvrsnica itself into its forest expanses. Passing from the lower side of the lake, you also go past Barrelland, whose unique architecture fits perfectly into the whole area. Before the very end of the tour, it is necessary to pass the fire macadam road through Boričevac. Passing through that area, through a tall pine forest, you finally get to the asphalt road that leads to Masna Luka, and after just a few minutes of driving along it, you reach the end of this cycling route.

RECOMMENDATION

Although the trail mostly takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalt section, we also come across a macadam section of the trail, while we always think that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
Helmet mandatory!
