In the embrace of the spacious and picturesque areas of the mountains of Čvrsnica, Čabulje and Vrana, one of the most important nature reserves of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located - We are taking you to the Blidinje Nature Park.

GENERAL ABOUT BLIDINJE NATURE PARK

Blidinje Nature Park is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this beautiful gem of Herzegovina should be on your travel list. About 360 km2 of this incredibly rich and biologically diverse park lies in the heart of the Dinaric Mountains in the northern part of Herzegovina. Almost half of the Park is covered with forest, and due to its rich biodiversity, the entire area was recognized and protected as a Nature Park in 1995.

The main motives for establishing the Blidinje Nature Park are found in the multitude of endemic plants, in the variety of animal life that inhabits beautiful forests, steep cliffs, deep ravines, living undisturbed and developing according to natural laws, far from the influence of man.

Why visit Blidinje?

The forest landscape, long pastures, clear lake, clean air and numerous archaeological sites are just some of the reasons, which are certainly more than enough to visit this unique nature reserve. But Blidinje offers much more - something for everyone.

The most famous sights of the park by the lake are the rich archaeological sites, and the necropolis with 150 stećaks in Dugi polje, which in January 2004 received the status of National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Among the cultural sites, the Franciscan monastery, which is located at the foot of Pločno peak in the town of Masna Luka, is also worth mentioning, which also houses an art gallery. Worth mentioning is the massif of Čvrsnica, and as a special geomorphological reserve Diva Grabovica, which includes the canyon of the river Grabovica within the framework of the beautiful whole.

This tour is perfect for all those who want to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the Blidinje Nature Park and the rich history of this region, but want to combine it with the adventurous element of cycling.

Tour Details

A cycling tour for more prepared cyclists, since on this macadam section you climb to Pločno Peak, which, with its height of 2228m, is the highest peak in the central Dinarides, and the fourth highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The departure is from the Administrative Building of the Blidinje Nature Park, from where you follow the macadam path towards the Blidinje Lake. At the 10th kilometer, you briefly join the asphalt road that leads to Rakitno/Posušje, but after 3 kilometers of driving on the asphalt road, you turn left again onto the macadam road that leads to Vrh Pločno.

Here it is important to say that at the 20th kilometer you have a source of drinking water that the locals call "Soldino Vrilo", so you can replenish your water supplies on the way to the top of Pločno.

From Soldina vril to the top of Pločno, you have about 12 km of cycling, on heavy macadam with a constant ascent that exhausts every atom of strength, but after reaching the top of Pločno, all fatigue is forgotten and you become filled with happiness that you succeeded, and the reward for your victory is incredible view of Herzegovina from its highest peak - Pločno peak.

P.S. A telecommunications facility with a permanent crew of soldiers, i.e. a military base, was built on top of Pločno. But don't let that scare you, access to the building is allowed and the soldiers are already used to the constant visits of mountaineers and cyclists. Maybe they treat you with a cold beer.

What to Expect

RECOMMENDATION

Although the trail mostly takes us through populated areas and you drive on an asphalt section, we also come across a macadam section of the trail, while we always think that on longer rides it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you inform your family or friends about your cycling plans before going for a ride.
