This 28.2 km long cycling route includes a network of local and macadam roads connecting World War II monuments. The war took many victims, leaving behind the devastation of the civilizational, cultural and sacred part of life. At that time, 66 Franciscans, whom the people call “Herzegovinian Franciscan martyrs”, and many other innocent victims were killed. Široki Brijeg is the focus of the Memorial Center, a spiritual and cultural center with a large Ethnographic Museum and a library dedicated to Herzegovinian Franciscan martyrs, which is the starting point of this route and ends at Bili, where there is a large cemetery complex and Memorial Center. This route actually pays tribute to all the victims.

SHORT INFO DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAIL
The journey begins in Široki Brijeg, from where you ascend to the villages of Gornji Gradac, Grabova Draga and Bile. Halfway from Grabova Draga, north towards Goranci, is Misište, where the Holy Mass has traditionally been celebrated for hundreds of years in memory of the difficult times for Christianity in this area. It is a place where in the time of the Turks the friars, together with their faithful, hid to hold Holy Mass. After visiting Misište, we continue our journey towards the Peace Cemetery in Bili, a large cemetery complex and memorial center in Bili, conceived as a gathering place for all victims of World War II and the Homeland War and victims killed during the communist regime. After visiting the Cemetery of Peace, we descend towards Široki, ie the location where our journey started.
WHAT TO VISIT
- Franciscan monastery and museum in Široki Brijeg
- Misiste on Bile
- Restaurant Vrelo Borak
Although the trail takes us through populated areas for the first time and you drive on the asphalt section, on the section from Široki Brijeg to Bila you drive on the macadam part of the trail which has a lot of climbs, but very well trodden and not a problem to drive. As you drive through part of this section through uninhabited areas, we recommend that you supply yourself with sufficient amounts of water in Široki Brijeg. We always think that it is necessary to bring a mini tool and a tool for patching inner tires on longer rides, so the rule also applies to this section. We definitely recommend that you tell your family or friends about your cycling plans before you go for a ride.
